2042  Modifications / 2D Sprites / Orc Boar Charriot -Beta on: May 15, 2009, 05:05:49 AM
Here are some early Concept Screen Shots

of my new Orc Boar Charriot based on the Original

Dark Omen Undead Charriot, using Rob's RDose Sprite

Viewer and Gimp Free Paint Program and then WH32Edit.

They are currently being powered by Boar Riders but I

can make them just Boars. Also, as far as I can remember,

from other Fan's Tests, the Charriots are fixed in Multiplayer

by providing Portraits for them, although still prone to the odd crash

due to Extreme circumstances and calculations, such as moving and being Shot.

A Good Demonstration of Spells still getting through Anti Magic,

can be seen in this old Battle Movie. At around 1:56min the Bright

Wizard casts a Burning Head at my Orc Biguns and it is Negated.

However, at 4mins he casts more Burning Heads at them and the effects,

this time get through. A great way to show the Throw of the Random Virtual Dice,

didnt favour the Orc Big'uns that day, their Luck had almost Run Out!

I was lucky enough to be declared the Winner against Sickie in that Match,

Hi and Welcome!

Smiley

My initial thoughts would be to purchase a USB to PS2 adaptor,

if your Keyboard is USB and if your pc has PS2, or PS2 to USB adaptor,

if your keyboard is old style PS2 port pins.

However, if all your other games work fine, then perhaps reinstall Dark Omen

or update the Keyboard's Driver but the only time I have experienced this problem

is after Alt Tabbing multiple times and it seems to loose its keyboard functions.

I will investigate further unless some one else can offer a better soultion.

(Do u use the Intro Crash fix and other Game Fixes? and please state if u are on Vista or XP)

Good to see you again, I remember you telling

me about the Mario Cart Project that you also work

2046  Warhammer Dark Omen / Tactics / Power of Anti Magic Items and Dispell Magic on: May 10, 2009, 07:02:42 PM
Just a quick reminder of how powerful Anti magic and Dispell can be,

was demonstrated recently when fighting against Pepijn's teleporting

Necromancer (we were playing 9k no rules). I had around 6 Elven warriors

left but they carried the Banner of Arcane Warding and despite his Necro

having 3 Dispells cast on himself, he shot 3 Doombolt (purple fireballs) at the Elves

and the Banner deflected one of them straight back at the Necromancer who then

died instantly, without using up any of his three Dispell magic, blue swirling particles.

Smiley

So the banner of Arcane Warding may negate or deflect enemy spells back to the closest enemy,

whilst the Spell Shield Eater will absorb the spell and channel its power to any friendly mages and

provide armour increase and Mork's banner negates spells and will explode any enemy mages on contact.

Leaving the Friendly Mage's dispell magic to just negate spells, similar to the Greenskin's Mork Save Uz spell.

All of these will of course Negate the Effect of the Horn (the Horn will take off 1 Anti dispell Magic) and Sword

of Skabskrath, causing Fear/Flee and also the Bright Wizard's Burning Head, since its unearthly laughter can cause

units to flee in Fear, as does the Ice Mage's Hawks of Miska, that may unnerve the enemy with its unearthly shrieking.

The Horn will also calm any of your Fleeing Troops, within ear shot/range and they will Rally themselves to return to Battle.

2047  Warhammer Dark Omen / Help Section / Re: Dark Omen in Full 3D Mode High Res XP and No Flicker! on: May 10, 2009, 02:34:17 PM
After Discussing the Merits of 3D mode with Ghabry I mentioned some old 3rd party

Force Refresh Rate software that I once tried, when forcing Operation Flashpoint 1

to play on a Radeon 9800pro 256mb card. Now I certainly don't like to Force Monitors

to go Higher than their maximum settings, so we are considering Sync'ing the Game Frame

Rates to hopefully eliminate the Flicker/Blinking in 3d mode when using a TFT Flat 60hz screen

and not CRT or very latest new TFTs with 8ms repsonse Times, now with 100hz as well.

http://www.pagehosting.co.uk/rf/

Refresh Force actually helps my 3d mode work better on this Nvidia and CRT monitor as now i can play

at 1024 x 768, 32bit @ 75hz Refresh Rate (normal mode) and doesn't Flicker, where as 640 @100hz was best

I have tried it with and without and it does have a positive effect on stopping flicker, despite the game always

running in 640 resolution as default,so at very least saves me swapping Screen Resolutions and Refresh Rates.

The problem with Laptop TFT is that I can almost reduce the flicker in 3d mode but the game looks dull, until

I disable Vsync in Nvidia Control Panel but then it creates Bands of Black lines that Flicker worse, however it is

worth pursuing and here are some other usefull tools that I am currently testing. Ideally we want to fix the Sync

Rate, rather than turn it Off or On- possibly.

2049  Modifications / Tools / Re: Modding with Wh32edit Uniteditor on: May 09, 2009, 12:24:36 AM
Great work editing etc and the best place to start is by examining the 10 year old Modded Armies of DOC111.
Thorgrim and Icle's Armies contain all Single Player Campaign units, Steam Tank, Dread King, Carleson's Cav, Nagesh/Charriots.(The Charriots can be fixed by providing them with a Portrait, as far as other members tests showed) etc..but in my experience the game may sometimes crash when using them, if it has to calculate it moving and casting a spell (Nagesh) at the same time as being hit etc, too much going on but that can occur when using Mages etc.A Great Unit in DOC111 was  also Morglum NeckSnapper, a Lone Boar Rider that has Morks Banner, permanently attached to him, at no extra Cost, ideal as a Mage Hunter, since he is much more manoeuvrable than a whole Troop of Boars.

As for Mixed Magic, Lord Volkmar and his Escort have both GreenSkin 'Ere We Go and Bright Wizard's FireBall. You may
find that our Stats Editors may have trouble examining this Unit, since the Mixed Magic has been assigned using a Hex Editor, rather Wh2/3Edit. However, it's been a while since I last investigated Mixed Magic, as Villetrentmeth and myself used to play 63000gc Battles with these DOC111 Armies (with movable Artillary, see wiki for my Destructable  Wals idea), for fun and here are some pictures from DOC111 and Villetrentmeth's own attempt at Modding Mixed Magic. Notice that in DOC111 the enlarged numbers/ranks of troops are given a Leader, so possibility for Berhardt to feature in Multiplayer, perhaps with the Grudgebringer sword attached etc, for future projects.

Using 3d mode on XP = Extra Polygon Triangles of Blood and Magic,
Particle Effects and Clear Water. Plus All Dead bodies stay on the Battlefield!

When using an Nvidia Graphics Card and old Style CRT 100hz Monitor (or perhaps very new TFT Flat Screen).

Excellent idea Grend,

A Dark Omen Online Campaign, has always been a shared dream for many years,

Great to see it becoming a reality. If we are going to play the Enemies, then consider

using the Dread King and others etc, as it requires no modding for the Opponent.

Also please check out, Crusoe's thoughts of using experienced Troops.

2054  The Remake Project / OMG WARTBED / Suggestions on: April 22, 2009, 02:10:18 AM
Your Talk of Formations made me think of the Scatter Formation tactic ,

that will reduce your chance of being hit by arrows etc , (perhaps in Total War).

However, the ability to control larger Groups of Units into their own Regiment formations

and also to then be able to alter individually will be a Truely Fantastic addition to WARTBED.

2055  The Remake Project / General Suggestions / Banners on: April 22, 2009, 01:52:33 AM
Whilst doing some recent tests I remembered that when I have mutiple units of the same kind, the banners become numbered 1-10. We would all agree that this is yet another fine detail of Dark Omen at work but I noticed that when a unit cried out for Help it was impossible to know which, as the 3d Portrait didn't have a number to represent the unit to go to. This was my initial reaction and so I'm not sure if there is another way to tell (I checked the map) and also no specific banner would flash as a warning.

Therefore I think these considerations would enhance any RTT but I do appreciate the particular
circumstances that it becomes beneficial but  increases with larger amounts of Battlefield Troops.
