This new version includes: Multiplayer: 3 big lists instead of 11! Instead of having many hard to balance lists, I decided to try having three big lists with the coolest units from all the teams. Humans: Empire, Brettonnia, Kislev, Lizardmen, Ogre mercenaries, Wood Elves Unded: Vampires, Tomb Kings, Chaos, Dark Elves Greenskins: Orcs, goblins, Chaos Dwarves, Ogre Kingdoms, Skaven Single Player: Complete new singleplayer campaign! Play as Morgan Bernhardt with his rag tag band as he fights an evil Deamon Prince! Includes many new enemies and allies, and increased difficulity (Not extreme though) Other new stuff: Many new banners New sprites Skaven assasin Skaven skryre rat Deamon Prince (WIP) Reiksguard Knight Saurus Temple Guard Skink Chameleon Skink Pictures I will not be able to work on this for quite some time after this I`m afraid so I really hope it works well! And a big thanks to Lordbrapus for letting me include his lizardmen in the project! -Grend Title: Re: Dark Omen 2 released (beta) Post by: olly on December 21, 2010, 03:32:33 PM Totally Amazing Work!

Title: Re: Dark Omen 2 released (beta) Post by: olly on December 27, 2010, 04:21:31 PM I have been enjoying the Campaign, especially against all the Extra Warhammer Races
(http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/4369/doe2.jpg) (http://img339.imageshack.us/i/doe2.jpg/) But the Lizardmen defeated me, so having to Restart from an earlier good Save. :) Title: Re: Dark Omen 2 released (beta) Post by: Grend on December 28, 2010, 12:50:45 PM lol glad you like it, I liked it alot too. Unsure if it is beatable though, it gets increasingly hard as you go ^^
The first missions are quite simple, but then it just gets harder and harder :) My fav map is the troll hunt one, you have to fight like every type of monster in that map haha Title: Re: Dark Omen 2 released (beta) Post by: lordbraprus on December 30, 2010, 05:11:34 AM cooll i am happy that lizardmen killed olly!!!!!!!!!!!!
Title: Re: Dark Omen 2 released (beta) Post by: lordbraprus on December 30, 2010, 05:15:19 AM HMM but i see something suspictious, i see 3 Temple guard regiments :o isnt taht too much? consedering them a heavy unit, if they were 3 skinks regiments it is okay, unless there are 3 templre guard and 6 skink regiments :|:O
Title: Re: Dark Omen 2 released (beta) Post by: olly on December 30, 2010, 01:49:00 PM I've beaten the Lizardmen now and currently stuck in the Northen Wastes after Troll Country, as down to a few good units, that may take me to the Final Battle, if I'm lucky! Great Campaign!
:) Title: Re: Dark Omen 2 released (beta) Post by: iaxx on December 31, 2010, 03:56:37 PM Hallo!
Thank you for this release, it's cool! But... i'm blocked in that mission where allied lizards turn around the map ever and ever....how do I complete mission? I killed every enemy already! Title: Re: Dark Omen 2 released (beta) Post by: olly on December 31, 2010, 04:58:12 PM Hi, yes I had the same problem last night,
(http://img709.imageshack.us/img709/4250/grend.png) (http://img709.imageshack.us/i/grend.png/) (http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/1629/grend2.png) (http://img524.imageshack.us/i/grend2.png/) The lizardmen are controllable (alignment set to Good not Evil using Stats Editor), you can alter it yourself using Ghabry's Wh32Edit Stats Editor (good practice) or wait until I fix it and replace the Download. I even killed them all with my Mortar but the game still didn't end. Did u notice your dwarfs were invisible when standing idle? Great Campaign with so many races and beasts! (http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/9303/grend3.jpg) (http://img193.imageshack.us/i/grend3.jpg/) :) **********I have now fixed the download and replaced the B405NME.ARM file************************ Title: Re: Dark Omen 2 released (beta) Post by: Grend on January 02, 2011, 05:11:32 PM Good job Olly! I would have used less temple guards, but it seemed slighlt too easy fighting almost only skinks :)
Title: Re: Dark Omen 2 released (beta) Post by: Grend on January 25, 2011, 11:04:52 PM Sorry for the double post but has anyone beaten the single player yet?
Title: Re: Dark Omen 2 released (beta) Post by: olly on January 26, 2011, 12:57:51 AM I'm on the last and toughest Black Pyramids mission but lost too many troops on the way, so get overwhelmed by the enemy. However, the last time I played I began leading the enemy around the Pyramids, allowing me to fight against 2 or 3 of them at a time.
(http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/5770/do2q.jpg) (http://img84.imageshack.us/i/do2q.jpg/) Great Game, fighting against so many additional Warhammer Races is fantastic! :) Title: Re: Dark Omen 2 released (beta) Post by: Flak on January 30, 2011, 02:41:20 PM Let us try and evaluate Dark Omen 2 as a multiplayer ruleset after the January Tournament
Most of us used cross-race armies (except poor little itlerion "jajaja" ;) ) From my point of view the ogres seem to steal all attention from the Greenskins along with Chaos Dwarves, they are too easy to make a strong army with, Orcs and goblins where not used much and had a hard time when they where. The human armies also had many ogres involved and Lancers, despite the big army lists it seemed that only a few units where chosen as they where so much more powerful than the "ordinary" units Undead armies had 2-3 black grails and some Druuchi warriors to make up the rest, maybe some wights or mummies as the only undead units. Artillery also had an extreme impact on many battles esp the Rock Lobber shooting 4 rocks, delivering total annihilation. These army books have massive potential but needs to be balanced rather alot to give more diverse army builds a chance Title: Re: Dark Omen 2 released (beta) Post by: lordbraprus on January 30, 2011, 03:47:54 PM flak i dont understand how you adare to make an observation in a bad organizated tournament were the players did what they wanted with the races, it is obvios that mixing races you only will buy the best of each race, i played the tournament obligated to save the battles but, because if it wouldbt be like that, i would leave it because what you all were playing was like plaing age of empires starting with maximum resource sin the post imperial age... all the best units
i dont know what was the point of doing that, knowing that the regular , or basic units were going to be ignorated, what you did was a lack of respect of grend mod and work, and the warhammer world .... mortar with elf archers , lancers and grial cavalry?? mummies with dark elfs?? ogres with golbin chaman? WHAT IS THE POINT OF THAT? so most part of your reply is spam of something that just should never have existed. The idea of grend was to avoid crash problems and waste of time changing the 2parm files each time you want to use another race, so he put 3 or 4 races with the most important regiment of them , and you just have to make an army respecting the races and not mixing them.. i repeat, this was a wasted tournament time .. Title: Re: Dark Omen 2 released (beta) Post by: olly on January 30, 2011, 03:59:19 PM It was still good testing and good fun to use new units but next time we will stick to single races etc..
Brapus/Iterlion- Skaven Army (http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/5231/baprus1.png) (http://img443.imageshack.us/i/baprus1.png/) I'd love to see a Rat Ogre amongst them! (http://img585.imageshack.us/img585/9008/ratorgre.png) (http://img585.imageshack.us/i/ratorgre.png/) jj We can expand the Home Page Troops to include a new DOE2 section for these extra races, for fans to study and build armies from. http://en.dark-omen.org/troops.html (http://en.dark-omen.org/troops.html) :) Title: Re: Dark Omen 2 released (beta) Post by: Grend on January 30, 2011, 04:14:29 PM It is not very balanced at all (Big surprise, since I never tested anything :P) Rock lobbers arent supposed to shoot 4 btw
If someone wants to take responsibility for making good pricing / rules, feel free to do so :-) Kind of like how Bembelimen balanced the 5k15 Title: Re: Dark Omen 2 released (beta) Post by: Flak on January 30, 2011, 04:24:01 PM Now no need to be harsh lordbrapus
I dont know the Warhammer world very well and has never claimed to. Regardless weather or not you cross races or not the strongest races still seem to have units too good for their price. We also dont want everyone to only pick between 3-4 races out of 11 if we didnt cross the races, so balancing is needed regardless. In my opinion Goblins and Ogres should stand an even chance against eachother, thats why i say its not balanced yet. This was apparent in the DOEC where we used the ruleset for the conquest and many things where changed with the goal of making the races somewhat equal. Maybe DO2 wasnt ready to be used in a tournament yet but it won the vote uncontested and all rulesets has a hard time in their first tournament Title: Re: Dark Omen 2 released (beta) Post by: Christophbs on January 30, 2011, 05:56:13 PM I am willing to play DO2 alot to make sure we get some testing done. ;D hint hint
Title: Re: Dark Omen 2 released (beta) Post by: lordbraprus on January 31, 2011, 06:20:01 AM i will make a price and regiments sizes balance with JERONIMO what do think about that? :o a balanced having the base of no mixing races, so, the 4-5 regiments by race will have to buoght , without leaving anyone without buy :P
i was very angry, i just had to express the anger, now i am fine... but , that was what i think Title: Re: Dark Omen 2 released (beta) Post by: alavet on January 31, 2011, 07:43:17 AM i always love to read lordbrapus posts when they long (which is usually the case).
i like his style and expression and i like his English skills (despite i hardly can understand what he was mumbling when we talked by phone). ;D as for the project - im such a mofo and didnt played it at all :-( but sprites looks awesome! but im so lazy to play it untill its balanced.. well single player campaing must be balanced enough but im lazy ass :) Title: Re: Dark Omen 2 released (beta) Post by: Flak on January 31, 2011, 10:34:20 AM In that case ramiro i will email you the files used in conquest, they are somewhat balanced, just to send you along faster

Title: Re: Dark Omen 2 released (beta) Post by: Lindar on February 01, 2011, 09:33:29 PM Hey People!
First of all: This expended Dark Omen is great! But I have a question. Is there any possiblity to get information about your regiments? For example can I read somewhere if a kind of ranged regiment is also good in melee? And a question off-topic, what is the best/a good way to kill those damned goblin fanatics that are released from goblin regiments when you engage them? I've played Dark Omen alot but never found a good way to kill them, thus ending getting half of a regiment killed. But anyway, keep up the good work and I will report the bugs that I will find! Greetings, Lindar Title: Re: Dark Omen 2 released (beta) Post by: alavet on February 02, 2011, 10:12:36 AM you dont need to kill fanatics, you need to avoid them :-)
best way is to use your fastest/smallest in heads regiment. for example treeman or mage or small squad of cavalry. you need to "provoke" fanatics and then run back. well if you unable to "kite" them that way there is really no way to stop them. perhaps using "wide" formation could decrease loses (but will increase possibility of hitting by fanatics). or maybe thats wrong, guess that fanatics go completely random so no formation can save you. overall if you can deal with them maybe its a good idea to turn your army back and "charge" with every1, so you will be out of range of most fanatics and enemy less likely will charge himself (or suffer some loses from own fanatics) Title: Re: Dark Omen 2 released (beta) Post by: Lindar on February 02, 2011, 02:11:09 PM I always try to avoid them when I know the goblins release the fanatics, but with this great Dark Omen expanded it seems almost every goblin regiment has fanatics with them, so often they take me by suprise when I charge them.

Title: Re: Dark Omen 2 released (beta)/multiplayer Post by: Debeul on February 06, 2011, 05:38:44 PM Can you use this mod on multiplayer?
Because i tried it against my brother(gameranger) and everytime the game stops(Other player not connected anymore/Dark doesn't work anymore) and one time i could play one but my brother was gone:o Great mod btw;) Title: Re: Dark Omen 2 released (beta) Post by: olly on February 06, 2011, 10:10:15 PM DOE2 is Great fun in Multiplayer and we all used it for the last monthly Tournament.

thanks for your hard work!! Title: Re: Dark Omen 2 released (beta) Post by: Christophbs on November 13, 2011, 11:34:19 AM sounds right to me. you will notice it is harder :P

Title: Re: Dark Omen 2 released (beta) Post by: cuthalion on February 20, 2012, 09:56:59 AM Hi guys, I played Dark Omen when I was a teen 14 years ago, now nostalgia took me and I found a version for XP and also found this DOE2 thing which interested me a lot.
I copied the files into /gamedata and /graphics, new units with their abilities and sprites do appear (first mission), but the annoying thing is all names are taken from the classic games like I have in my army: -GB Cavalry -GB Infantry even though it's clear those are some dwarves with pistols, but no Schepke guys. -GB Crossbowmen though those are kind of shortbowmen like Goblin Archers were of old. -GB Cannon - though it may as well be so except for 2 cannoniers instead of 3. On second mission I got a Cavalry Unit which is called 'Carlson Cavalry' though it looks different. Could you help me to make the game display all the new names instead of old ones? Thank you. Probably it's impossible. But it's really annoying to see all those 'Night Goblin Archers' on the battlefield even though there are some Evil-Heads and Spiders firing MY SWORD :) Title: Re: Dark Omen 2 released (beta) Post by: olly on February 22, 2012, 08:02:47 PM Hi and welcome, it's a great time to join ->

I found it was only possible to change unit names on the battle fields in the EngRel.exe so I probably have out of date installation package, not suitable for this DOE2 campaign...though I downloaded it for my Win7x64 from this very site. Anyway, I am now trying to understand how to download and place Sprites created by the fans on this forum to create my own campaigns :) but it looks as if these sprites overwrite default unit sprites and make the default campaign look ugly. Also, I know it's an off topic but the forum seems kinda deserted anyway. Are there still any multiplayer tournaments or games going on? I will probably make a complete Newbie in Multiplayr but It would be fun for me ty try my skill. Title: Re: Dark Omen 2 released (beta) Post by: Ghabry on February 25, 2012, 12:11:09 PM Hi, the unit names displayed for the enemies are always the ones defined in EngRel.exe. Their is a field for the unit name in the army file but this is ignored for the enemy unit names (so you can only rename your own units).
Yes the modified files always overwrite original data because all filenames are hardcoded in EngRel. And don't expect too much from the modded campaigns. They "only" alter the units. The maps and the story is not modified. An exception is Rise of the Dead, this alters the deployment and spawn positions of the units and enemies (but not the map or story). We currently have no map editor ^^. The forum is currently a bit dead, you are right. The last four years we had much more activity. Title: Re: Dark Omen 2 released (beta) Post by: olly on February 25, 2012, 04:22:18 PM Your plans for a new campaign will certainly attract more interest to the forums and shame you weren't around during the Christmas holidays to play in Jim's Tournament, that saw around 100 matches being played online and is still on going. We still host our normal monthly Tournaments, although sadly not enough players last month but a few of us are generally on most weekends.
However modding still continues with great results, I've been busy creating our first new Fortress Mod Map that finally sees new armies battling on a new map and although my progress is slow on my own, I hope it will be the first of many, especially if we succeed in creating a height map generator that will speed up the process. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PKvP_8CfwLE&feature=player_embedded (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PKvP_8CfwLE&feature=player_embedded) We still have our sights set on creating whole new full campaigns for all the DOE2 sprites/races, that offer more alternate paths and routes to take, battling on new maps. Certainly early modding investigations suggest that it should be possible one day, given enough time and expertise. There are even talk of Dark Omen remake Projects, so we are certainly not dead yet! hehe. I look forward to seeing you on the battlefield soon. Tournament: Saturday 3rd of March 2012 (5pm GMT 0) (http://forum.dark-omen.org/tournaments/tournament-febmarch-t1090.0.html;msg11086;topicseen#msg11086) :) Title: Re: Dark Omen 2 released (beta) Post by: cuthalion on February 27, 2012, 11:16:29 AM Hi, the unit names displayed for the enemies are always the ones defined in EngRel.exe. Dwarf musketeers or whatever are cool but I hated them being called 'Grudgebringer Crossbows' :) Is there a EngRel.exe with the updated names for DOE2? But it's more enough to keep oneself attracted for a little more. Anyway, I skip all those portrait dialogues because I know what they say there. But it's fun creating not only new units but creating new unit types and shifting the army balance, making missions harder etc. Title: Re: Dark Omen 2 released (beta) Post by: Grend on April 06, 2012, 04:35:28 PM Hi, the unit names displayed for the enemies are always the ones defined in EngRel.exe. It's easy and I figured it out myself: Just use any text editor (better if it is a hex editor) and overwrite unused names with required ones. The only thing to watch - the length should be exactly the same for any given unit, so you should pick up units with longer names than you want to insert. Otherwise the .exe file is screwed up. Title: Re: Dark Omen 2 released (beta) Post by: Dmitry on January 10, 2013, 11:17:30 PM Hello everyone!
Some feedback about release :) I will speak about singleplayer campaign. At first - am I right that there is no opportunity to change banners in the book? If so, should be better not to change banners of regiments either? Because there is only confusion - one should hardly concentrate and remember what regiment bears what item and so on. So I had to overwrite these banners with original ones (except dwarves with some firepower - it seems that they have something other than the banner of original crossbowmen) At second - am I the only one who got invisible dwarves in Axebite Pass? ))) They fight, they die, they have banner but they are invisible ))) I tried to write back original sprite, bat it doesn't help because it was not replaced by the Dark Omen Expanded. And original save from Axebite Pass shows normal, visible dwarves... That's all for now. Thank you for this addon :) Title: Re: Dark Omen 2 released (beta) Post by: olly on January 16, 2013, 12:00:02 AM Hi and welcome, glad you enjoying Dark Omen Expanded, from vague memory I think they maybe Dwarf miners that are underground (invisible)
:) Title: Re: Dark Omen 2 released (beta) Post by: abcdeh on January 22, 2013, 10:35:32 PM Hi everyone! I grew up playing this game and I've just started getting back into Warhammer so I thought I'd give it a shot. I was quite surprised to see that not only did people still play this game, but they had made it better! I'm really excited to try to run this later tonight, but I have a few questions. First of all, do I need to find the physical DO disk to play this version? Will this run on Windows 7? Is there any way to play multiplayer with a friend? Is it difficult to install (said friend needs step by step instructions to install games usually)? Thanks so much for this, can't wait to start building a lizardmen army!

Should I create a folder? Where should I put it? Enjoying the mod a ton! Thanks!
Title: Re: Dark Omen 2 released (beta) Post by: Reality on September 13, 2013, 02:24:19 PM Hi, so I just installed the dark omen 2 mod. But I think I must be doing something wrong?
I'm mostly interested in the added units in multiplayer. When I create and army, stuff gets a bit weird :) For instance. A human army, i turn to page 3 in the army book. It says Ogre Kingdoms over the large picture, and the picture is of an ogre of some sorts. Under the picture it said imperial halbadiers. In the description to the right side, there is a nother picture with an ogre, this time it says Skink under it. And the text description is about a troll. What am i doing wrong here? :) Title: Re: Dark Omen 2 released (beta) Post by: olly on September 13, 2013, 11:44:40 PM Hi and Welcome, I've tested and get the same, so will sort it out and post soon...
:) Title: Re: Dark Omen 2 released (beta) Post by: thelastarmada on September 14, 2013, 03:27:55 AM Its the same for me, seems like somewhere along the line of packing the mod things got blended.
Title: Re: Dark Omen 2 released (beta) Post by: Reality on September 14, 2013, 01:01:17 PM Cool will look forward to the fix then :)
Title: Re: Dark Omen 2 released (beta) Post by: olly on September 15, 2013, 10:21:31 PM There is no fix since there are approx 4 units of each race, as described on page 1 ->
This new version includes: Multiplayer: 3 big lists instead of 11! Instead of having many hard to balance lists, I decided to try having three big lists with the coolest units from all the teams. Humans: Empire, Brettonnia, Kislev, Lizardmen, Ogre mercenaries, Wood Elves Unded: Vampires, Tomb Kings, Chaos, Dark Elves Greenskins: Orcs, goblins, Chaos Dwarves, Ogre Kingdoms, Skaven After creating multiplayer armies, using 4 units of race they do appear correctly on the battlefield with the correct banners etc.. so basically the mod needs updating by Hex Editing EngRel.exe to give new names and also the new Troop Book pictures for the Lizardmen etc.. C:\Program Files\Dark Omen\Graphics\Books\Troops. Eventually in the near future we will enough new sprites to fill whole armies, by using the Call of Warhammer 3d models to produce 2d sprites or reuse the Civ3 Warhammer mod sprites -> both of which I/we have been granted permission to use. http://forum.dark-omen.org/2d-sprites/call-of-warhammer-3d-models-to-dark-omen-2d-sprites-t805.0.html;msg11491#msg11491 (http://forum.dark-omen.org/2d-sprites/call-of-warhammer-3d-models-to-dark-omen-2d-sprites-t805.0.html;msg11491#msg11491) http://forum.dark-omen.org/2d-sprites/civ-3-warhammer-mod-sprites-for-dark-omen-t1165.0.html (http://forum.dark-omen.org/2d-sprites/civ-3-warhammer-mod-sprites-for-dark-omen-t1165.0.html) But I'm currently working on new terrain maps for each Race (starting with a Chaos Guard Tower) :) Title: Re: Dark Omen 2 released (beta) Post by: thelastarmada on September 15, 2013, 11:04:42 PM Ahh so basically its far simpler to use the existing 3 army format.
and the "errors" are just place holders ? Phew. loooking forward to it olly They just dont make games like SOTHR and DO anymore Title: Re: Dark Omen 2 released (beta) Post by: andreycou on September 23, 2013, 10:14:38 AM Just downloaded this a couple days back and wanted to say thanks a lot guys for making this great mod. Finding the new campaign tricky as anything though.
Guess the real fun will be in multiplayer. where and how do i find players? Title: Re: Dark Omen 2 released (beta) Post by: Aliendwarf on December 30, 2013, 02:47:59 AM Hello, I am new to this forum , but I loved to play the original game back in the days.
However I just reinstalled the original game on my cpu and got it to work, now I downloaded this expansion and was wondering about the following: When I click on Start new campaign, it is just the normal campaign..I play humans with different banners and the special abilitys of my enemies are pretty strong... but basically this is the normal campaign , I must admit I just played the first 2 levels... did I miss something? I installed the expansion the right way, because I can read in the main menue that it´s the expansion I am playing... but I thought there are new races to play and new campaigns I can play...or do I have to download something else from this forum to play a diffrent campaign? Title: Re: Dark Omen 2 released (beta) Post by: olly on December 30, 2013, 10:42:11 PM There is a campaign but the creator's were too busy making the sprites than concentrating on the Single Player, so carry on playing to encounter the other races.
:) Title: Re: Dark Omen 2 released (beta) Post by: ClemFandango on February 15, 2014, 09:43:49 PM I have downloaded the game, extraced the files and added the install files to the Dark omen file and replaced the existing files. When iload the game it is just the original Dark Omen, what am I doing wrong?
Cheers Title: Re: Dark Omen 2 released (beta) Post by: olly on February 15, 2014, 10:07:12 PM Unfortunately it sounds like you haven't copied it into the right places as does work normally. However if u revert back to original version then u can download our Mod Selector and also some top mods such as DOE2.

As I just get the original game.
Title: Re: Dark Omen 2 released (beta) Post by: olly on February 16, 2014, 01:04:32 AM Download the mod zip above (contains only 3 folders) and rename your original PRG_ENG and SaveGame Dark Omen folders -> so you can extract and copy the replacement new PRG_ENG and SaveGame, along with the new Mods folder into C:\Program Files\Dark Omen etc.. Then launch EngRel.exe from within the new pasted PRG_ENG folder.
http://forum.dark-omen.org/tools/mod-selector-t1118.0.html (http://forum.dark-omen.org/tools/mod-selector-t1118.0.html) The new EngRel.exe is actually modded to allow full 3d mode from within the game's options but u will need to right click it and select Properties to set run in 640 screen resolution and set desktop to 16bit or any problems just use the EngRelNo3d.exe or set to CPU mode not full 3d within game options. http://forum.dark-omen.org/help-section/3d-mode-and-win8-dark-omen-t1164.0.html;msg12254#msg12254 (http://forum.dark-omen.org/help-section/3d-mode-and-win8-dark-omen-t1164.0.html;msg12254#msg12254) :) |
