To celebrate the first release of DOE, I am holding an informal mini tournament for anyone interested next Sunday!

The rules are:
Dark Omen Expanded ruleset
5k
Only one of any unit with name written in bold
No Banner of Wrath or Horn of Urgok.
Make at least 1 list from every list type (Human, Greenskin, Undead) and play with one from each list type at least once.

We will have groups of four where each player plays the others once, then finals.

I`ll try to finish it in time Ghab, but the problem is that I have to open all the banner files, since I do not have any good backup files for many of them to use. :S

It kind of devolved into more casual play, since quite a few couldnt show up at the right time and so on. But it was quite fun

I had made 3 Hyper-Strong Armies to show up... but well, I ll use them next time DOE is played.

Okay for feedback from the "tournament".

There's the problem with siege engines you know about (more than 1 side sufferes from it)

Ogres are far too weak they need a serious stat boost accross the boards, something like +1 w/s +1init & +1 wound (trying to keep them vunerable to missile fire).

Chaos are both a bit dumb and a bit overpowered.  The range of chaos tactics are between walk over and hit the opponent and well that's it :)  I think there's a few sides (bretonia, goblins, vampire counts) who are basically screwed when fighting chaos.

The lower rank Brettonia troops (men at arms, bowmen, trebuchet) seem to expensive for what they are, atm you might as well go pure high end.  Also the "grail guard" could do with reuduction in cost, and matching skill wise to grail knights, the green knight is a bit too exspensive imo, 900 be a better cost.

Chaos Dwarfs: fine except the choas dwarfs themselfs, i think the warriors need a small stat boost, also olly complained the blunderbuss's where causing lag, i suspect it's the firing effect.

Dark Elves: fine, great alround side, although the soul drain crashed the game between me and olly, so mage needs looking at.

Dwarves - only played against once, seems fine although hope you can solve the teleport problem.

Played some great games with some amazing looking sprites!

Knock the leader prices down to 300-450, for more mass army madness (rerember 1 leader max limit).

Vampire Counts: Seem to be fine but have huge problems against high end units.  Grend you mentioned wright being really good?  By wrights I presume you mean grave guard.  Now lets look at Vampire Counts Grave Guard Vs Chaos Chosen Warriors.

Thanks for some quality feedback Darkmancer, It seems adding spells are way volatile at the moment, so most of them will be removed again for the next version I think.

We prefer to operate using price changes instead of stat changes to keep stats as correct compared to WHFB as possible.

Well the idea behind prices on goblins atm, is that you have to choose between a huge horde (15) or an elite horde (10)

Grave Guard have s4 t4, as well btw, and yeah, unbreakable made them totally worth it.

Shame about the spells,odd that the raise the dead spell never crashed the game, yet soul drain did.  Maybe try temperoly giving necromancer the soul drain spell, and see if it crashes the game.  The New Balance mod had a linche with the soul drain spell and it didn't crash.

Re price changes, fair enough but certain lets say exotic units would be better with stat changes.  Ogres definitely.  PS the spirt host has 4 attacks in WHFB but only 2 in your mod :p

RE: Gobos a) it's only an extra 300gp, b) gobos are never overpowered even with "elite" units c) more fanatics doesnt always improve your army :)

RE chosen warriors, ignoring the increase w/s and extra armour, i think your really underestimating having double the number of attacks & immune to fear, with 2 w/s6 & strenght 4 attacks its going to be extremely rare before something beats them in h2h & beats the ld8.

and thats just an example take grail knights vs chosen knights, or pretty much anything melee vs chaos, there's many armies without ranged weaponry powerful enough to threaten chaos (high toughness, high armour). 

Is it me or has games workshop been a bit silly having daemons of chaos seperate to warriors of chaos.  Instead of say extenuating warriors of chaos with units of your choosen god?

Actually goblins are extremely deadly atm because of their potions of strength.
I agree about Ogres being to weak still. Annoying how it is hard to properly deal with since we dont know how combat resolution is calculated.

Chaos can be flanked like any other army though, and they are extremely expensive.

Spirit Hosts in WHFB is a swarm unit though, so that comparison gets slightly warped since the same model has to be used for the wraith which makes it impossible to have it working as a proper swarm unit.

Expensive?  I find it quite easy to create 7/8 unit chaos armies, as trolls and hound seem quite decent troops.  Maybe support troops are too cheap?

I find it's chaos dwarves, VC, and Bretonia armies that i find expensive for various reasons.  

I dunno, I'll try to find some opponents to fight with Choas armies, but flanked or no I dont think they'll break easily.

Yep chaos dwarves are a bit good, but relie on blunderbus's to be honest.  Olly said they fire to often, but maybe is cuz so many fire at once as all 3 lines fire?

Re Ghabry - "Our weapons pass though it" - they're fighting the greenknight who's a wraith.

of the new unit types, I looked at the flag and though squig hoopers were bog standard goblins, and the shaman mage on a spider was just a spider :(  Getting units jammed on the balista didn't help either (a current bug with DOE which is easily fixed.

A bit boring, I didn't know that the sprit host crumblees as it's on of the things Grend forgot to mention :( I also stuffed up not putting dispel on my necromancer, although to be fair i don't think it made much of a difference, his preformance in all game i played with him has been underwhelming.

A couple of extra things re mod..

a) Check the spreadsheet before the next tournament.  I only checked vampire counts and almost every unit was wrong :/

b) Add a column in the spreadsheet allowing you to select number of units and it showing you the cost underneath (i find it easier to create armies this way).

the sheet will be uPdated when the new vers is released. little Point in changing it when its already outdated.

No don't let people modify the original.

However people can download the original by clicking file download as and  either open office or excel. (or just use the one that comes in the readme file).

All it needs is an extra column adding, a line of zeros, and a formula you can almost copy paste.

Eg for Chaos Dwarves I inserted a column before point cost called it cost.  Added a 0 to each row.  then below did:

=(M4*N4)+(M5*N5)+(M6*N6)+(M8*N8)+(M9*N9)+(M10*N10)+(M11*N11)+(M12*N12)

row 7 is missing as its the included slave crew for the cannon.

Easy, takes 5 min to do the entire sheet and you don't need to update it (much).

How about porting the Document to the Wiki and then editing it there ;).
(and why do I need a google acc to view the Document?)

Grend can you fix the arty bug, and remove the show stoper spells (soul drain, and the chaos one) for next week?  I thinking for the tournament.

Also did raise the dead of bands of flame crash the game for anybody?  They didnt in the games I played.

Bonus points for boosting the ogre stats :)

i have done most of the changes already, so ill put up a fresh new version tomorrow :-) With alot of fixes. will get to work on updating the sheets then! Willl do something to ogres

I've often wondered if i actually hear strange noises when in a DO battle (1 in 100) and after watching Darkmancers 3rd Video (or top 1 of this page)  i heard it again. It is at 2:32 and you see a Green Brain Bursta (fireball) and hear the Kerching gold+1 sound and "not done yet" sound in sounds/sound and there is also another in the same folder but unused, of a woman "not donex" but that never gets played as an alternative to "notdone". I guess we all hear the sssshhhhh noise when the game gets confused during a busy battle. If the "notdone" audio clip is the intended sound for the Brain Bursta impacting the enemy then it can be easily replaced. However, more tests using a Goblin Shamen would have to be done to see if it is random or not.

I've know about the cash register ding and the "not done" sound for a bit athough I never been able to work out what it said.

It's a really odd and disconcerting in battle to hear all the charges, explosions, and fighting to then hear ding and a muffled voice :)
