I have been back playing Dark Omen on Windows 10 with no issues recently. I followed the install instructions on this site and everything worked as expected. Today though something has happened and I cannot pinpoint what it is so hopefully someone else has experienced this and has a solution.

The issue is that the settings in the options menu have reverted and cannot be changed back. 'Colour Cursors' is now off and 'Sprite Filtering' is also off. The only setting that can be altered is the music volume, every other setting cannot be changed.

When I click in the menus or in game a smaller cursor appears in the top left hand corner of the screen. It's almost as if there is a smaller screen open along with my main screen as it mimics my cursor movement. I have clicked all over the screen to try and change the settings in case there is an offset with the cursor but no joy.

I have tried uninstalling and installing again but the issue persists (I deleted the Dark Omen folder and the reg key entries). I have not made any changes to my PC since the game last worked properly.

The game does still work but it is annoying having these settings reverted and the mini cursor appearing on the top left of the screen whenever I click. I didn't have any settings issues before today.

I would very much appreciate if anyone is able to help me out with this.

Just to add to this. I have dgVoodoo included and again it worked fine until today. I've tried removing it and trying different resolutions but I still have the same issue so do not think the problem is linked to dgVoodoo. I do have the correct version 2.6.3.

I managed to fix this. I'll post here tomorrow to say how I did in case someone else has the same issue. I don't have time tonight.

Glad you resolved the issue and will be interesting to hear what suddenly caused it not to work. Maybe permissions/antivirus quarantine, or using a different shortcut. Hopefully the virtualstore 64bit registry fix in the mod pack, helped restore the correct settings.

Not sure what caused the issue, I did have a PlayStation controller plugged in to my PC when the problem occurred so I don't know if maybe that messed with something although unplugging it and restarting the PC didn't resolve anything. If it happens again I would maybe be able to narrow down what caused the issue further.

The fix was just to uninstall the game and remove the Dark Omen folder and any mentions of Dark Omen in regedit (I think I may have missed some entries which made this not work the first time I tried it) and then install the game again. That is one of the fixes mentioned in the  fix guide. I tried a bunch of other things to try and fix this issue without an uninstall but the uninstall is the only thing that worked.
 
If you have this issue and you have to uninstall the game and you don't want to lose your current progress, just copy the SaveGame folder located in the Dark Omen folder and paste in your saved games with the fresh install.

I have this exact same issue. I installed the game according to the guide and was happily playing yesterday. I wanted to continue today but the settings have reverted and can't be changed again. I uninstalled the game, deleted all the registry for Dark Omen and installed the game according to the instructions. I still can't change the options and thus can't play the game. Does anyone have any advice?

Join our discord channel and then I can arrange a time to Teamviewer in check your settings to find what has changed. Probably permissions on the Dark omen folder or antivirus blocking.

More likely to have missed a step in the guide and requires installing the virtualstore 64bit registry fix etc, in the mod pack.

Thank you for the quick reply. I got an idea because of your message and got it working (it seems). I, again, uninstalled the game, deleted the registry AND gave myself admin rights to Dark Omen folder and at least now everything seems good.

So the only thing that changed after yesterday was that I turned off my pc and today the game was not working. After giving admin rights, I just tested turning my pc off and on. The game still works just fine.

I wanted to write it here to potentially help other people with same issue.
