So, some of you may or may not know this... but before I ever started trying to get into Warhammer, I was a huge Warcraft fan. I've played them all -- Warcraft, Warcraft II, Warcraft III, and World of Warcraft. I love the three strategy games the most.

Has anyone else here played these games? Share your experiences!

IIRC my first "real" computer game was the warcraft1 demo.
Had to get the demo because it was on a 3.5" floppy disk and I didn't have a cd-rom, yet.

'been watching some war2 videos...
chop looks fun - https://www.youtube.com/user/pffflstlss/videos
60men looks tedious - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC8OodAj3UmMjLXE-gJ4I03Q/videos

Recently I've been trying to patch War2 BNE to fix the graphic issues caused by DWM Desktop Composition
http://www.bitpatch.com/downloads/war2_ddraw_test.zip

I've also got a few lines of code in https://launchpad.net/wargus

Warcraft 3 was pretty great, the expansion not so much.

I've thought about installing Defense of the Ancients (DotA) a couple of times.
Anyone have any thoughts on the single player play, for that?

also Blizzard banned 100,000 WoW players for cheating today, lol!

Warcraft I was a good Fantasy shift from Dune2 - the only RTS - as we know the janre now - by those years. It took 8Mb of diskspace at a time my HDD was 40Mb overall. Also, it required 4Mb (!!!) of RAM, I had exactly 4 and I had to unload all possible kinds of programs from base memory for Warcraft I to run Smiley The game war crazy, I passed it as orcs and then as humans.

Pirate version of Warcraft II took 8 Floppy Disks in archive (each disk 1.44Mb). I remember bringing them home from a friend of mine, and then 1 of the disks would not read - something common for FDD, and I had to go to friend again to copy that part of the archive one more time.
Soundtracks from Warcraft II are in my favourite playlists till these days, I listen to them when in a car etc. Awesome music.
About the same time I played Warcraft II I heard about Warhammer SoTHR for the first time. But it required Windows 95 while I only had MS-DOS 6.2. And to install Windows 95 I needed a better PC than my 80386 SX.

By the time Warcraft III appeared I have already grown cold to RTS so I have barely seen it even. Those years I played text online RPG - MUDs a lot. That was crazy experience.

Now I have grown old $). And sometimes I like to play 'old games of my childhood' but very rarely play new ones.
Dark Omen is one of such favourite games. Smiley

Similar experiences with PCs but also played Warcraft2,SOTHR & DO on PlayStation 1 loads. Wasn't too keen on Warcraft 3 as camera was too zoomed in but years later found out there was a mod to zoom it out more. There's a DOTA Clan on GameRanger who always try to convert me.

I played only Warcraft 1 and 2 as a student and liked both of them. Never played War3.

The fans remade Warcraft1 and War2 in open source new engine Stratagus. It is possible to play it on fullHD and there are a lot of options about controls, autocast of spells and similar enhancements.
It is open-source C++ project, so you can add there everything you wish.
