              ******DARK OMEN DUEL******

===========================SUMMARY===========================

This game was developed by me and my brother when we hade played
Dark Omen multiplayer to many times and needed another whay of
playing it.

So "Dark Omen Duel" is just a whay of playing Dark Omen.
It doesn't require any patches, fixes or uppgrades.

The idea is to create a game similar to the gladiatorial games and
the map "The Bretonian River" suits the game perfectly.

Each player deploy his/hers armies on each side of the island in
the middle of the map so that they easilly can cross the river to
the island.

You then fight each other, unit by unit. When one unit is dead or
waving the white flag, next unit is sent on the island. This makes
Dark Omen similar to a card game. What are you gonna play next?

More detailed rules and a draft for a point system is found below.

=======================How to play & RULES=======================

1. Each player creates an army to the same amount of points.

2. Start a multiplayer game on the map "The Bretonian River"

3. Each player then deploy his/hers armies on each side of the
island in the middle of the map so that they easilly can cross
   the river to the island.

4. Before cklicking "start" command the unit you whant to send in
first to move down in the river, to the "entrance" of the island.
In this way the players don't know which troop the opponet will
   start with.

5. Click "start". The choosen troops will now walk down in to
the river. When both are ready write "3", "2", "1", "go"
and run up on the island with your first troop.

6. One of these units will conquer the other and a new unit has to
be sent in by the looser to fight the remainings of the winner.
That means that the winner has to leave what's left of his troop
on the island to face the next enemy troop.

You are allowed to send in a new unit on the island in three
   cases:

    1) When your unit has died.

    2) When your unit is waving the white flag, even if it's still
on the island, AND the opponent unit has stopped chasing yours.

    3) When the MAJORITY of your troop is down in the whater and the
       opponent is NOT fighting you.
When the mayority of a troop is down in the river, on any
side, it has to be moved away from the island and can not
enter again. It's out of the game. Which means that you can
chase an opponent down in the river to win. (It doesn't
have to wave the white flag. But make sure your own troop
don't run to far...) The troop is out even if it whent down
in the river chasing a troop waving the white flag.
This means that both opponents may have to send in troops at
the same time! (make sure to move away your troop if it's in the
whay for enemy troops to enter the island)

Additionally the troop already on the island, whating for it's new
opponent, is not allowed to attack, fire arrows, cast spells, or in
any whay deal damage to the unit entering the island untill it's
   completely out of the whater.

7. Continue in the same whay untill one opponents units are defeted

Aditional rules:

(1) A unit outside the island is not alowed to interfere with the battle
    on the island.
To use a unit outside the island to cast spells, shoot arrows,
canonballs, use items, even put dispells on a target in or outside
the fight or in any other whay deliberately interfere with the battle is
    strictly prohibited!

It is also strictly prohibited to deliberately effect the units outside
    the island. Even your own!

On the other hand, if a troop would be hit by a spell, for instance, and
with an equiped item reflect that spell on the enemy it's OK!
As well as troops may get hit by miss directed arrows, spells, or fanetics!

(2) You are only allowed to pick up items droped on the island.

(3) You can also play a campaign and you may then gain 2p for wining the game
(or what ever the players decides). You then open the saved army as it was
before the duel and then buy new stuff with your victory points.
You do not keep Items from your last round.

===========================POINT SYSTEM==========================

When you create your Dark Omen Duel Army, use the 9000gc limit.
Points is supposed to be the only limit.

I guess this would be even more fun to play if you could make armies with 1-5 soldiers per unit.
NEver understood how to do that...

Great Idea and very well thought out and presented, we vote each month for the Ruleset to use for our Tournaments (last one was DarkOmenExpanded Mod, new Warhammer Races and Sprites etc and there are many more) so I'd vote to test this sometime and I'm sure you'd get willing Beta testers any other times (myself included).

The Gladiator Theme reminds me of the Skeleton Chariot Races that used to be played on Return to Axe Bite Pass' Oval Map!

i dont know how any Archers or Mages will be usable by that scheme.

Click "start". The choosen troops will now walk down in to
the river. When both are ready write "3", "2", "1", "go"
and run up on the island with your first troop.

there is a lot of micromanagement involved with archers/mages and you basically nulify it.

also very briefly checked it i noticed that Black grail is very cheap for 9 points (and dwarfs as 6). BGK could roll out 3 dwarf regiment by its own, not even mentioned one by one.

but still thanks for the effort! Check out our latest rulesets (perhaps 5/15 would be great) to see our proposal for points distribution. that could be a good start.

I know that the point system kind f sucks...
I haven't played with points that much.
But i think that this game need it's own system.
Some things are better then others in this kind of combat.

And what do you mean with "micromanagement".
If the opponent have a mage on the island, arshers are hily effektive! Then they die!
There for are gioblin arshers, elven arshers and skelleton arshers good. (they are better in close combat)
The Human archery has no chance in close combat, why they are sopposed to be cheep in this game.

Mages can do a lot af damage. But the wizards, shamans, and necromancers are vulnerable and may cost less bocuse of that. Dont' know. I only know that I enyojed the game! =)

Hello guerrero. Im Itlerion's brother Jeronimo. Welcome to the website. I read your Ruleset.

Its an interesting way to play "Bretonnian River" since the map isnt cool for a bloody standard battle.

As few improvements I think now:
1) Banner of Defiance should cost 4 points (definetely breaker if used in Mummies)
2) Flagellants 7 points (too cheap -> 360 for a unbreakable regiment)
3) HU Cavalry cheaper to 6 points (they are overpriced)

What is HUcavalry? And what do you guys recomend for BGK?
I edited the item and the flagelants, but I don't think i should post the new ruleset
each time it's edited....

I realise I am late to this thread but I just wanted to say I appreciate this game mode. It seems fun! If you still would like to work on it I would recommend making a page on our wiki, where you can edit and update as you discover what balance is best!
