There are some used sprite slots built into DO or you could just replace old ones.

Question to the recent modders: Are there any ways to use high resolution textures to the maps?

512x512 can be used but the Blender Convertor tool warns of overflow as suited to 128x128 8bit 256colours .BMP but does save or u can simply replace original 128x128 textures with 512x512.
