Yeah, is there any more sophisticated documentation on DOST5?
No thread in «Rulesets» sub-forum.

And guys, could you tell me please, why you vote for dost5?
What's so special about it?
May be I don't get the clue, but this ruleset seems to me boring and the one which doesn't give you enough freedom to create your unique army. Too many boundaries.
Why I love FO — it doesn't have any boundaries except money, and some little battle rules.

Nickname is fixed, sorry. Deadline for ruleset votings is the 23th February 2010 (Register deadline). But because I count only the confirmed votings the final result will be available on 25th February.

how are the DOST5 rules actually played?
Well it looks like they have splitted the Empire in three different groups (but adding units from other groups is possible, but limited). So this is something like in the FACTIONS ruleset but less restrictive.
And the number of units is limited / forced (e.g. must have 8) like in the 3k/5k-Point rulesets. But without points ;)

Yeah, is there any more sophisticated documentation on DOST5?
No thread in «Rulesets» sub-forum.
No the only explanation is the one in the wiki (which is copied from ovotech but I couldnt find any larger discussions there either...)

And guys, could you tell me please, why you vote for dost5?
What's so special about it?
Well this ruleset is retro ;). Already the old guys from ovotech played this in year 2000. So I just want to play it once because of this :D.

I'm currently trying to contact the author. Lets hope his ICQ number still works...

Title: Re: Tournament February 2010
Post by: Darkmancer on February 07, 2010, 04:23:48 PM
I see the army listing's I meant general rules to do with DOST5.  Do we pick a price band, or is it a series of 4 battles, or is it 3K vs 3K, then winners remains of 3k vs 6k, etc.

Title: Re: Tournament February 2010
Post by: Ghabry on February 07, 2010, 07:30:25 PM
No you always start with a fresh army.

But I would suggest that we use some higher gold values (7k, 9k) to make the battles more interesting.

@Ghabry: I surfed in Ovotech to find out what kind of community is there.
In Ovotech they have like 200 topics, all about different stuff of DO, but nothing about extended versions.
They play only Original Dark Omen, there is no tool for moding, thats why its considered the "best system" without touching the archives.

Its like the 1001 Arabian Tales.
DOTSV5 is one more System based on Original game trying to make it as good as possible: but anything based on DO will be always lower in balance than our mods (I myself opin that Wkurwiony's Mod is better than DotsV5).

You miss there is a DotsV8 (yes, version 8 ).
You miss they have special odd rules to play with Wizards and others kind: things like Ice mage behaviour  :P
(surfing deeper in every topic you guess there is more than just army limitations).

So, why wasting a Month with a old-fashion Ruleset? :) Seriously. Result is easy to imagine.

In fact, if we present FO / NB / CDO to Ovotech I bet many will never play DotsV8 again.

no 5k/15 rules are like that http://wiki.dark-omen.org/do/DO/Rules/5000/15 (http://wiki.dark-omen.org/do/DO/Rules/5000/15)

basicly every regiment/item have point value, so in 5k/15 you must create army for 5k gold and not more than 15 points

I change my vote for: Fair Omen 5k gold.

Reason: It´s better, that mod resolve problem than Dark Omen (normal) dont resolve yet.

Have luck for the tournament!

I've reinstalled my OS recently. Don't have DO and hamachi.. Nothing's here.
Need more time to install all that, patch, and play a test game with FO ruleset with anybody.
Don't think that I'll manage all this tomorrow.

Title: Re: Tournament February 2010
Post by: Jeronimo on February 26, 2010, 05:38:30 PM
@Ghabry: 3k/FO = 5k/15   I will change my gold size to 7k

Reason: I understand you want to try opposite, but perhaps not tomorrow: next month or after that.

My classes at university start on 23th March. This is my "last" Tournament until winter holidays.

Some Empathy: After loads of work I look for some epic battles before I leave, not 5 min skirmishes.

Tournament has ended

My observations are:
1) Magic Words limits a lot the gameplay (and Armybuilds).
2) There was much halberdier spam (similar HU Armybuilds).

I ll work on these fails..
If you want to add something, do it now.

I don't enjoy being insulted over a list that I made that was compliant to the rules (or at least that's what I think the reason is.) . So I'd like to ask the opinion of the forum on this matter. Included below is a screen-shot of the battle where he insulted me. As everyone can guess flaming doesn't end with a few sentences so it went on a little while after this.
[attachment=1]
Ps. I quit that battle and we replayed because I was just an ignorant child that couldn't understand why an adult would reduce himself in name-calling, thanks for the rematch btw ;-) LordBrappus

i am not adult, i dont reduce, i explained bembelimen that i threath in that way with ppl because is normal here of course that not all speak like that, but there are ppl and not few, a considerable portion that speak as i spoke to you, that was a brutal, or not "light" way of say taht you changed your starting positions regiments because you knew what armie i had ( because we had a previous game  that finished in conection lost, so rehost) , while you had all archers and i just 4 regiuments, any way i ws able to defeat you and i say sorry of telling that bad words toyou little child :P, about the little child i say taht befause i imagine that maybe you are like "mama he told me iam idiot" rather than a 18 years boy that know that the kind of "insults" i told you, are in joke way.

Brapus/Itlerion is probably the youngest of us all and combined with his fiery passion for Dark Omen, it still doesn't give him the right to be rude and has now been told he is on a final warning about his unacceptable behavior.

None of us would like to see him banned, especially with all the hard work he has done but now understands he must think carefully before he writes stuff.

Harsh but Fair

The ruleset idea to use only gold as the limiting factor in building armies and esp. the new item cost's is a good idea.
Problems with unit spamming which im sure nobody really like not even the ones who use them but if the ruleset opens that option and it makes the strongest army tho boring as it may be then its legit and cannot be frowned upon.
A unit cap seems the only way to avoid this.

The item cost's seem well balanced to me, hard to fully judge tho when only 3000gc is available.
Unit cost's also seemed fine, tho again 3000gc makes it hard to fully judge it.

However the magical words ruins the tactics of the battle, suddenly archers and the expensive mages are of little to no use.
In my opinion all magical words must be removed from the ruleset or they will overshadow a ruleset that seems quite useful.
I can maybe understand a rule to keep hit and runs at a minimum, but to limit the use of so many regiments just ruins the game experience.

This is the first time the issue of trash talking has come up in our tournaments. I understand that this is quite common in multi playing and some people enjoy it or even think that it adds a personal psychological dimension to the competition, but at the same time it is also something many find very annoying and even alienating. Our official stance here is that we play and behave honourably, which means we are courteous in victory and gracious in defeat. Sportsmanship is what the game is all about.

Then again, I know lordbrapus is a nice guy with a good heart, and I see this as nothing more than a learning experience! So this will soon be put behind us in preparation for next time, right lads? :)

After Tournament, I played with Ghabry some battles to test the New Maps of the patch.

We agreed to play 5k/FO battles, and without "Magic Words".

Result: All maps work fine. And... we played a lot Bogenhafen Town Extreme, happened that all battles were kinda exciting, and we didnt get bored (despite being only of 5k).

Yes. Definitely I'll remove MW code. Just keep the "Bug report" (which is useful), something with Draw Games, and some limit to Strong Wizards... nothing more.

PD: Im also tired of my brother's behaviour. Not only what he does in Tourneys, also in real life he is that way...

@WHF: My bro had reason concerning that u shouldnt have changed the deploy positions in the rematch...
Of course, the way he reacted is not valid. He knows next time will be banned for such behaviour.

Text taken from document:  "INSIDE BATTLES

When happens SESSION LOST and there isn’t a clear winner, host must recreate game with same/map/armies/deployment positions. If there is an obvious winner, no need to replay battle."

For next times, everyone must read the ruleset. Is not just few "2parm" tweaks...

Responsability is welcome.

Videos are online (http://forum.dark-omen.org/tournaments/tournament-february-2010-t670.0.html;msg6531#msg6531) (better late then never ;))

The Brightness of the videos has been increased. The Dark Maps should look much better now.

Have been looking at the videos - good entertainment! One thing struck me, though: there are many all-archer and spam armies, what we would have considered "cheeze" armies when we started the tournaments. It it the rules used that allowed this?

Title: Re: Tournament February 2010
Post by: Jeronimo on March 27, 2010, 05:06:19 PM
Regretably yes. When I did the Halberdiers 12/12 at 240gc, I was thinking in 7k,9k battles where they can only reinforce your ranks, but never considered that would be spammed with 3k...

I already resolved that problem :) (new link at my network)
