Enhanced Edition, a reworked Dark Omen.

Dark Omen Enhanced Edition slightly alters the original campaign flow by adding more choices and also consequencs to your actions.
How you spend your time is now more important, so chose wisely.

Features:
- more missions
- more and mostly harder enemies
- some enemy units now have strong leaders based on 4th Edition Warhammer Fantasy Battle
- units better in line with 4th Edition (still no lances for Knights)
- no more magic items in buildings, they are now rewards or carried by enemies
- more possible army combinations to fight the Dread King
- some altered versions of dialogues fitting new choices

Special thanks go to:
- Olly for keeping site alive and his step by step guides
- Ghabrys Mod Selector and WH32Edit
- Aqrit and Ghabry for easy WHMTG script edits
- Robs CTLdis and BTBeditor
- and of course all the Dark Omen devs for making this awesome game

Patch Notes 1.1.0:
- goblins stole 3500gc from the imperial reward treasure
- added a dark magic spell
- the timing of the dwarfs improved slightly
- added more talking heads here and there
- further improvements to dialogues
- the lords of "The 100" turned into heroes
- two of the lost magic items found by powerful enemies
- polished the important battles
- this patch is not save game compatible

I hope that Klaus catched all the bugs. Have fun!

What a pleasant surprise and gift for Christmas.

Many thanks Malus and have included it into the latest mod pack.

:)

(Also working on completing adding in Illidan's new High Elves and Skaven Armies into latest mod pack during this holiday, then can start placing new scenery on the 24 new maps)

**The enemies are tough in your new campaign Malus!

Thats a nice picture with masacre and fireworks!

This battle is maybe the hardest of chapter 1.
Did you lose Countess Guard and Imperial Bowmen?
I don't want to give any spoilers but it its worth to check if a regiment will leave soon (red arrow) or maybe stay (green arrow).

Hi Guys

I am new on this forum, despite I used some advices from here also years ago on WinXP laptops installing and playing Dark Omen.
It is awesome you made some mods. I like it. But there could be some README file in folder of every mod written by author where major changes and advices would be explained by the author of the mod.

About this enhanced mod I like for example the idea of items not hidden in buildings. I don't need now to destroy every building after mission, it was boring.

I also don't like the Strenght button and hotkey "S". Such solution was for children and is damaging my mouse and keyboard. I would appreciate mod, where this button and action would be forbidden. Also such a multiplayer mod.

Happy New year 2020 I wish to all of you.

Hi and welcome, glad you're enjoying the mods.

I do like the idea of a readme file that describes each mod and will create it based on their forum posts

http://forum.dark-omen.org/campaigns-b36.0/ (http://forum.dark-omen.org/campaigns-b36.0/)

I love the interactive strength button that can sway the outcome of melee and makes Dark Omen unique. It presents the player the decision to either micro manage each unit  to boost them but doing so takes their eye off the bigger battle, at their peril.

I miss the strength button in games like total war and feel redundant once each unit is engaged in combat. However, at least warhammer total war has spells to keep you busy.

:)

The Strenght button could be at least "hold and wait" instead of fast-clicking button. The developers of 8-bit shooters recognized the autofire button is more fun and player can focus to other more funny aspects of gameplay instead of competition in fast-clicking.

I like especially the portraits of squad leaders informing about events of battle and their squads. I liked it also in "Z" (commander ZOD) game. It's a pity a lot of later games are missing this funny aspect of RTS battle.

I went through whole this enhanced campaign and I consider it really ENHANCED compared to original. I finished original campaign at around 5 times.
The enemies are really dangerous and they use their skills even better as the units from original campaign. All the missions are polished and I didn't encountered any glitch in AI or some enemy regiment behaving incompetent on the battlefield. This campaign is far from some amateur additions of half cooked moddifications into the game.

Some missions like "attack of greenskins camp" tend to crash, but I encountered it similar frequency in original campaign.

Gameplay rating from me: 5 stars out of 5

Thanks for playing  ;)

I don't know how to disable the strength button, but im sure its possible.
Makes me happy that you enjoy the changes, they are most important for replay value.

So have fun exploring!

Ps.: Please report any bugs, so Klaus can fix them.

Hey Malus,

1st of all thanks for this enhanced edition! from the few levels I played it looks really cool. But I have a question and if possible, give me as spoiler free answer as you can. So I just finished the helmguard mission but the game did not let me choose to defend bogenhafen (The town defense mission with the purple clothed mayor). I was wondering if the choice I made to help Sven impacted this. And if future choices also will impact that kind of stuff, like choosing to go on one sidemission makes it skips another. Or is something weird going on with my game?

Hi,

your game is fine it is intented to be that way. You can't do all missions in one run, there is no "time" for it.
So if you show up late to a defense, well...  ;)

Thanks for the reply! I will continue then and prob replay it a few times hehehe

Currently working on version 1.1.0 with some much needed balance, bug fixes and little features here and there.

If anyone got some feedback left then now is a good chance to get it included in this version.

Have a good one!  ;)

I Suggest taking a look at vogons later on with the newest DGVoodoo2 updates at vogons forums, since im occupied with other stuff i don't have too much time to look Dark Omen again due to Skyrim (there is a nice warhammer mod pack at Skyrim Special edition nexus https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/47858 (https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/47858)) and irl stuff.

plus, 4:3 CRT mode works now, therefore smooth dark omen in 4k.

Also Skyrim now has a AI Voice program that works well even for Campaigns if you guys wants to check it out https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/44184 (https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/44184) it has support for all games there an its updated regularly and its open source, therefore it can be trained even to use SOTHR and Dark Omen Voices!

Hi, sounds good and Dege already kindly helped incorporate his fix into our mod pack EngRel.exe that makes Dark Omen look amazing (see the help fix guide) and even better when using his dgvoodoo2. Will certainly check out his latest though thanks.

Much appreciated and those Skyrim mods look awesome!

Hello,

This looks very nice, but I have a question, I see that Dark Omen 2 (http://forum.dark-omen.org/dark-omen-expanded/dark-omen-2-t926.0.html (http://forum.dark-omen.org/dark-omen-expanded/dark-omen-2-t926.0.html)) Has this mod included, but it was last updated 2017, and this new version of Dark Omen Enhanced Edition was released 2018... Would this 2018 version work with 2017? if not, is there anything I can do to make it work? Or am I simply forced to play the older version of Enhanced Edition if I want to play Dark Omen 2 mod?

Thank you for your time! :)

Best regards,
Kjer

Hi, all mods in the mod pack are kept up to date. The Dark Omen expanded web page links to the mod pack download in the Help Fix Guide. Dark Omen 2 is just another mod included in the mod pack.

Hey,

I just registered to say I loved this campaign, really enjoyed the additional challenge.

I made it to the final mission but because i let the hand and the jewel go the final mission was a bit too difficult for me! Maybe with 100 attempts I could do it aha.

I had some questions about the mod:

1) do you have a list of which magic items are available? I reached the end with not too many and none for the bright wizard.
2) Do you have to skip blighted towers (and the mortar) to arrive on time to collect the jewel? I skipped the flagellants mission but was still too late. I also did the border princes quests to get the bright wizzard + carlsons cav. Does skipping the opening fight at the trading post also factor in?

Cheers for the mod - it rocks

Hi and welcome, I'm sure Malus will love and appreciate your kind comments, as do all the modders. I will have to investigate on the weekend to confirm the answers to your questions, as been awhile since I last played it through.

:)

Welcome and thanks for the feedback!

1)
Magic items are spread out in a way you can't get them all at once, it depends on your path to victory.
For balance reasons the Banner of Wrath and the Horn of Urgoth are removed but the others are carried by individuals.
I didn't count the number of magic items but you can get plenty over time.

2)
Every mission you do counts as time spend to "get something done" before your "actual mission".
From my view of the game this was intented at some point but cut for reasons.
The result was a very linear campaign where you, except for Bretonnia, can get everything.
Thats no longer the case and you need to pick a path.
As you spend time the story doesn't wait for you anymore.

My advice for you is to not do the full campaign at once.
Instead do each chapter a few times differently to see which items and units you can get.
When you build you army chapter by chapter things start to look differently.
Also listen to the dialogues, they give advice here and there if you are running late again :)

Im glad you enjoy the challenge!
