Title: Grateful for help getting DO to run on Win 10..
Post by: Bjorne on March 31, 2016, 08:00:10 PM
Hey guys..so i have read almost all the other topics about getting it to work on W10 but i still have issues :/

Tried 3 different downloads and same result (I have the original cd but its too scratched and broken since its from 98^^)

1. I install full game no problem, download mod pack no problem but i cannot get past the Menu..cant click anything.

2. If i try to download the registry thingy the only thing that changes is that all the sound is missing, still cant click anything.

What am i doing wrong here? Oh btw all the downloads are full size game i think about 500-600mb in size!

Any help would be appreciated since i loooooove this game so much

It might sound harsh but it's because you haven't followed the guide, since Dark Omen works fine on Windows XP up to Win 10, if you follow each step. I can remote in and fix just by following the guide, pop into chat channel or message me your Teamviewer 11 ID and connection password.

:)

ps. In the last week I fixed 1 person's game but following step 1) Install English version of Dark Omen and a second person who hadn't set compatibility settings to Runs as Adminstrator, 640x480 and 16 bit Colours.

** Update**

I remoted in and we disabled User Account Control and rebooted and then reapplied Registry settings again which fixed the "no mouse on Main Menu" issue.

Just a heads up, it would help if you would advise people NOT to install in Program Files (x86).  That's a protected folder, and older games have difficulty running from it since they're not allowed to write to it without admin rights, and they expect to be able to write to their install directory since that's the way it used to work.
Suggest C:\Dark Omen and suddenly things work without turning off UAC.

Hi, that is true but our mods and fixes depend on Dark Omen being installed to  C:\Program Files (x86)\

Thanks
