Hi

I just bought a new computer with windows 8 as operating system.
Is it possible to play dark omen on windows 8?

Is there a guide for it? Or nobody tried yet?

Its possible that the Windows 7 guide (just download d3drm.dll and put it in the ENG_REL folder) will still work fine.
But I guess nobody ever tested this, we are all happy with Win 7

Doesn't seem to work, won't even install from my disk

I've got it installed and working on Windows 8 64bit and will post a guide tomorrow.

It crashes at 0% at dread.spr

I will post a Windows 8 guide after more testing but initially I did get a similar error as you, when trying to install Dark Omen from a backup folder of my original CD.



However, I tested it again on Windows 7 and got the same error but then found another backup folder of my CD and it installed fine on Windows 7 and 8 64bit by following this Guide (which is very close to our Win 7 64bit guide) ->


1) Right Click Setup.exe and Run As Administrator



2) Select Maximum Installation



3) Say Yes to Direct X 5 install



4) Browse to your C:\Program Files (x86)\Dark Omen\PRG_ENG folder and Right Click on EngRel.exe -> Properties -> Compatibility Mode and select Change for All Users and Select to Run in Windows XP Sp3 mode and also to run as Administrator and Apply

5) After Game has installed - DO NOT start game until you have downloaded and copied d3drm.dll into Dark Omen\PRG_ENG folder and downloaded and installed the Intro Reg Crash fix from

6) Double Click on EngRel.exe to start the game and Press Esc to Skip the Intro and go straight to Options and ensure CPU mode is selected and No to Coloured Cursors and then Test in Game.



7) After you Quit the Game Allow Dark Omen to communicate through your Networks

8 ) Windows Protection may ask for Dark Omen to Run and you can disable PC Protection and User Account Controls and even Stop Disable Windows Firewall Service for any Multiplayer issues.









Remember to Run Compatibility Mode WIN XP Sp3 on the Mod Installer EngRel.exe in your Dark Omen\Mods\PRG folder
